Nashville, Tenn. (February 6, 2013) - Jenny Simmons, the celebrated singer-songwriter and former frontwoman of the Dove Award-nominated band Addison Road, is receiving incredible praise for her much-anticipated debut solo project, The Becoming, available nationwide this week. Simmons doesn't disappoint on any level with this heartfelt and deeply authentic project, which debuted at No. 5 upon release on the iTunes® Christian & Gospel Charts.
With The Becoming being met with stellar reviews and critical acclaim, here is just a sampling of what the media is saying about Jenny:
"The Becoming…lacks for nothing. Jenny Simmons has poured herself into this record. The writing is solid and the performances commanding. The result is an honest, deeply personal chronicle of her journey marked by a vulnerability and authenticity that is sure to capture listeners' ears and hearts." New Release Tuesday"With each of Jenny's songs giving us a great reminder of moving from fear into comfort, worry into assurance and uncertainty into hope; Jenny has delivered an album full of remedies, struggles and encouragements, each with the primary message of running to the Father as we enter seasons of renewal and restoration." Indie Music Vision
"[Jenny Simmons] … sings lyrics that are true to her life, and at the heart of that is God, so God features in the centre of all songs." Louder Than Music
"A musical documentary capturing Jenny's emotions during a period of great change and transition, The Becoming is an infectiously joyful and ambitiously hopeful debut solo project while simultaneously being real, raw and ever so relatable." Breathecast
"Ten honest works of art based on her personal experiences, with plenty of heart and emotion, showing us that even though Addison Road is no more, Jenny still has more stories to tell... professionally and immaculately crafted." Christian Music Zine
"Simmons' distinct vocals and edgy sound, not to mention her songwriting skills, make this an impressive debut album." Lifter Magazine
"The impassioned way that Simmons sings these words helps make things abundantly clear-she's been on a journey, and she's willing to share a little about it with you." Crosswalk
Partnering with her long-time record label, Fair Trade Services, and the masterful production skills of Paul Moak (Mat Kearney, Third Day) and Seth Mosley (Newsboys), Simmons penned The Becoming in the wake of Addison Road deciding to amicably disband. After years of touring and giving Christian music fans powerful songs such as "Hope Now," "What Do I Know of Holy," "All That Matters" and "This Little Light of Mine," the decade-old band stepped off the stage.
The Texas-based band debuted with their self-titled record in 2008 that garnered the band their first Dove nomination for Best New Artist, was featured as an iTunes® Discovery Download and garnered a No. 1 single with "All That Matters." They released their critically acclaimed sophomore album, Stories, in 2010, which featured the hit single "Fight Another Day."
Since her emergence on the music scene, Simmons' vocal abilities have impressed critics and fans alike, lending an honest and authentic voice to lyrics that hit listeners with disarming relevance. Media outlets have described her vocals as "vulnerable and sincere" (ChristianMusicReview.org), as well as "piercing and chameleon" (Phantom Tollbooth).
Simmons has embarked on a tour in support of The Becoming, which kicked off last night with a sold-out StageIt performance. The tour will visit markets including Dallas, Phoenix and Washington, D.C., currently consisting of more than 25 shows. Please visit JennySimmons.com for the most updated tour information.
